40 Years of Goth Shoes

Updated: Dec 2, 2021

40 Years of Goth Shoes by Liisa Ladoucer

Fashion is an ever evolving concept that reflects on the trends and lifestyle of a particular period.

Liisa Ladouceur, a Canadian journalist, author, and more significantly, a goth, was a fan of those 100 years of fashion time lapse videos. However, those videos were mostly based on mainstream fashion. Wanting to do something more alternative and personal, she created her first 40 Years of Style video: 40 Years of Goth Style.

After the immense success of her video (which currently sits at 5.4 million views), she went on to create more videos for the series, such as 40 Years of Men's Goth Style, 40 Years of Goth Style GLOBAL REMAKE, and 40 Years of Goth Shoes.

In 40 Years of Goth Shoes, we see goth shoes of various eras starting from the 1980s all the way to the 2010s. Rather than just focusing on one type of shoe per decade, she features various styles of shoes per decade while still keeping them period accurate. We get to see pikes, creepers, to platform boots, heels, and flats. Goth shoe fans will also recognize the presence of their favourite goth shoe brands such as New Rock, Doc Martens, Demonia, T.U.K, Jeffrey Campbell and more. One can open the description box to identify a specific shoe as Liisa has listed all the names according to decade. The shoes were provided by Borderline Plus and from Liisa's fellow goth acquaintances and friends, which makes the video all the more authentic.

At almost 800k views and 31k likes, the reaction for the video is mostly positive. One commenter even pointed out that unlike mainstream fashion, alternative fashion has lesser restrictions in terms of what goes in-style and out of style, which was definitely reflected in the video.

Support Liisa, her team, and all the effort that went into the making of her video by watching her video, giving it a like, and perhaps even share it to a friend!
